Case Study : Tobacco and Oral Mucosa



Tobacco pouch keratosis :



Case Study :


Here was a patient of 58 years of age who had come to the hospital with a complain of pain in one of his right posterior teeth ,after the complete observing the oral cavity it was sent hat the labial mucosa and the buccal mucossa was hyper keratoic .there was a severe Recession in the teeth and in the lower anterior the there was a severe boneloss and recession with the complete exposure of the roots in the lower mandibular anterior. When the patient was enquired about the habits it was found that his has been taking Gutka and Raw tobacco for at least last 45years .The patients had no sign of pain or discomfort for the same .the tooth had Grade II mobility in 41 &42 while the others were non-mobile. Surprisingly the severity of the case was not known to the patient and hence was neglected by him for all these years. The roots were covered with Deep brown stains and calculus .In the buccal mucossa brown and Grayish patch was observed .



The classical case of Chronic Generalized Periodontitis with Tobacco Pouch Keratosis was Diagnosed .
